Final Selection

Selection will end this coming week. There's only three questions that really need to be addressed anyway. I'm glad its coming to an end, as I'll be able to shift my focus on to more specific items.

The boats I will enter in Scholastics and Midwest are:

Varsity 8+
JV 8+
Varsity light 8+
Flyweight 4+
Varsity 2x

The Novice 4+ will enter Scholastics only.

This setup should get most guys two races. Some will only get one, and that is difficult.

I'll announce line-ups next Tuesday by email. This doesn't mean line-ups are set in stone. If guys don't like where they are rowing, they need to perform at a level that will catch my attention.

Insert various Denis Leary quotes here. I'm sure anyone familiar with his work can figure out what belongs.

Jay if you don't mind I am going to take a stab at why the Novice 4+ does not race at Midwest.

1. 3 seat has mono
2. Allows you to put us in different boat.

Am I close?

hey... mr mono plans on rowing at midwest. I think we are doing a JV8 instead of a Varsity 4 and a Novice 4 because the results will be much better. So dont go counting out the guy with mono, he wants to be in a boat just as much as you do.

I was not counting you out. I was just listing possible thoughts of the big man.

I would love to have you in any race.

All of us are here to do one job. That job is to pull on a wooden/composite oar as hard as we can, and to pull with everyone in the boat, for everyone in the boat.

I am thankful for every day I have to row with all of you.

"I would love to have [any of] you in any race."

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in Fox Chapel, now abed, shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon this day…"

I like it, Steve. But does anyone who goes around quoting that all day actually know the context of the monologue?

It's given by King Henry V before the battle of Agincourt (in Act IV, I believe). The King just overheard one of his dukes complaining about how outnumbered they (the English) are against the French and about how many good men they left behind in England that could help them now. The King launches into his very long speech to reassure the troops and fire them up. He talks about honor a lot. It's very good; I suggest you all read the entire speech. Anyway, the point is that when things may look grim, and that lightweight (or varsity) 8+ next to you is on steroids, and you've already raced three times today; just remember, we're all in it together and you're not racing alone.

We are a band of brothers, and we will fight, win, or lose together.

I'm glad are team is made up of such intelligent, well read guys. Just think if we were on most other sports teams, none of these conversations would ever occur.

ROWING IS SWEET!
